"Dear Steve,
Debbie and I were in a celebratory mood last Thursday and I was delighted that you had a table for us and that you had something in addition to absolutely special beef grills to offer her. She is a cordon bleu chef but is not a big steak eater.
Your welcome was so warm, the service so efficient and friendly and the food so good that it would have been a memorable evening anyway, and one which would have brought us back again and again.
But what you didn’t know was that rather than celebrating my 70th birthday and 70 absolutely magnificent years with one big party in November, I’ve decided to make every day of my 70th year a reason for a “birthday”. So last Thursday was my Local Grill birthday and what a lovely birthday you made it … and you didn’t have to. Just good food and Debbie would have been enough.
Instead you gifted us Moet and all the personal caring attention I could have wished for. I felt like the most important person in Parktown North, an area which has very nostalgic memories for me, and for you apparently.
Thank you thank you. You, the Local Grill, your food and your staff have a page in my 70th year birthday journal.

"Hi Greg, Steve and Llewy,
I would like to thank you for organizing a fantastic and memorable 40th Birthday party for Gunter.The food was exceptional, the guests can't stop raving about it.... the deserts were a great hit! Thanks for the beautiful birthday cake, not only did it look fantastic, it tasted fantastic too.
Greg and Llewy, you guys were great on the evening,you really didn't let me worry about anything and the service was first class.... you will have a lot of new patrons coming to your restaurant.
Please tell the waiting staff a BIG "Thank you", The were so friendly and efficient and went to great lengths to keep the uninvited people out. We really appreciate that they stayed so late... sorry for the big mess we left behind.
Please thank the kitchen staff for getting the food out of the kitchen so fast....and it was the best steak I've ever eaten!
Thanks again for everything, we will see you at the restaurant soon.

“Dear all at The Local Grill
I am sorry that it would be difficult for me to shake your hands and to thank each one of you personally, as your times on duty and my diary do not coincide this week. I am therefore committing myself to writing and I hope that everyone of you who were on duty on Saturday evening gets to read this note.
Let me start by saying that we chose The Local Grill because we have always been made so comfortable and welcome in your restaurant, because we have always had a great meal there, because we consider it to be ‘value for money’ and because we like supporting “local”. Saturday evening was exceptional in all respects.
Having been a little concerned that things were not ready when we arrived at 4:00pm to decorate the tables, Woesie (hope the spelling is correct) quickly got things organised. The preparatory work laid down by Lourens in respect of sound, microphone, TV’s, Barend, flowers, menus, choice of wines, etc paid dividends. Everything we wished for happened. The staff were absolutely superb in their service from the first welcoming drinks to the last round at whatever time it was - and not once a murmur of a (very) late evening. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and served so promptly. The sound system proved its ability as the dancing continued unabated until we left.
I cannot tell you how many of the guests made special mention of the staff and service and I quote but one of the thank you emails I received today:
“By the way, the service there was amazing. They caught you as you walked in and offered drinks, but quickly. All the drinks orders were done quickly. At one stage I was sitting at the table and the tall waiter chap with glasses came up to me and said that he had seen I was looking around (to see who I was going to party with next!) and perhaps I would like some tea or coffee. I was flabbergasted - asked for tea and it arrived promptly in a full-on teaset. other girls had cappuccino and they arrived hot and fast! We were so impressed and please pass on compliments to the management.”
I have no doubt that the party has endeared yourselves to many new patrons!
From Jenny and I, I say thank you to all of you: Lourens (I’m so sorry that you could not be with us after all your hard work), Steve, Greg (hope you are feeling better by now) and Woesie and all the waiters who all did your best (the kitchen staff need to be thanked as well please). Turning 50 is certainly a milestone that I have enjoyed celebrating more than any other previous birthday and you guys were instrumental in making that happen.
